Description |
Clear glass oval (either shoo-fly or union oval) flask base and partial panel of body. Shallow stamp of a elongated diamond with and "I" on interior. Trademark is the "Diamond I" of Illinois Glass Company out of Alton, Illinois. The company was created by William Elliot Smith and Edward Levis in 1873 and ran until 1929 when they merged with Owens Glass Company to create the Owens-Illinois Glass Company. The "Diamond I" was used from 1915 to 1929 mainly for medicinal bottles. Flask shaped bottles like this would contain whiskey that would be prescribed by the owners doctor for medicinal use. This was a way to get liqour during Prohibition. Previous Description: 6 artifacts glass basal fragments: 1 clear drinking glass frag 3 S.G.
